Food & Drink

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and if your morning drink is a warm, or cold, cup of coffee, you should try some of these delicious foods to pair!

Avocado Toast

Avocado Toast is a perfect pairing for a cup of coffee! It’s tangy and savory taste mixed with crispy bacon match amazingly with full-bodied coffees with fruity notes. It’s an easy-to-craft meal that’ll have you up and ready for your day, or night even! You can even try out this pairing at The Coffee Class. Our Avocado Toast is made with smashed avocado, onion jam, bacon bits, tomato, and micro greens, and topped with a crispy multigrain toast. It’s always made fresh!

Fruits

Another healthy pairing with your morning coffee is fruit, specifically berries. Coffees hailing from Kenya and Yemen pair well with the tartness of many berries. These coffees compliment the taste of the berries very well and will give you that extra energy boost that you’ll need to start your day.

Pastries

Starting off your day with an iced latte? Try pairing it with a soft warm pastry to compliment the bold taste! This classic pairing is popular throughout many cafes and easy to make at home. The Coffee Class serves a numerous variety of pastries like seasonal scones, handmade poptarts, scones, cupcakes, brownies, croissants, strawberry croissants, almond croissants, and more in our pastry display!

Salty Foods

Feeling bold? Salty foods offer a unique experience when it comes to pairing them with a cup of coffee. Salty foods intensify the taste of the coffee and bring out more of its rich flavor. Coffees from Costa Rica are the best for this pairing. Salted sweets are the best way to start diving into this experience!

Mix & Match

Overall, there are many ways to experience your coffee by mixing flavors and finding the best ones for you! Whether it’s breakfast or lunch, lots of foods go well with your cup of coffee. Try experimenting with our menu and see what you like! Check out our menu HERE and see what you can mix!

Morning Blues

Is that same cup of coffee in the morning not giving you the same kick of energy anymore? Need some extra energy today for an important interview? Are you finding yourself drinking more and more cups of coffee to jumpstart your day? Then it may be time to learn some new tricks on how to get more bang for your cup of coffee!

The Secret is Caffeine

The active ingredient in coffee that keeps us awake when we chug it when our morning alarms go off is caffeine. Caffeine works by tricking brain receptors into thinking we are not sleepy. Adenosine is a natural chemical that the body produces which binds to receptors in the brain that slows down brain function telling us that our body needs to recharge and sleep. Caffeine mimics adenosine in the brain and binds to the sleep receptors that adenosine is supposed to bind to. This means that the real adenosine cannon bind to these receptors, thus tricking our bodies into thinking we are not tired!

The More the Better

So, obviously, more caffeine would make a stronger coffee to give us more energy! To get the most caffeine out of your coffee, you can use a lighter roast. Grinding the beans as finely as possible will extract more caffeine for your cup as well. Brewing your coffee for a longer period of time also extracts more caffeine. A good rule of thumb is that the lighter the roast, the finer the beans, and the longer the brew time, the more caffeine you’ll get for your coffee! So rise and grind!

Call the Navy

Is the robot apocalypse among us? Are we doomed to be annihilated or controlled by our own metal creations? Engineers at Arizona State University say that we are very far from such a terrible fate. Why do they say this? Because robots have yet to master the art of holding a cup of coffee and walking at the same time.

To be Human

Picture this, it is 6 o’clock in the morning. Your alarm goes off, and you head to the kitchen to make yourself a nice warm cup of coffee. Simple enough right? Now you take your cup of coffee up the stairs to enjoy one last few sips of heaven until you head to your job to clock in. All this seems easy to humans, but engineers and programmers have had trouble understanding how to translate the mechanics of holding a cup of coffee in one hand, and walking down a simple hallway.

To be Robot

Walking a cup of coffee down your house may sound pretty straightforward, but that is simply because of the millions of years of evolution that it took to make such a mundane task, well mundane. From the joints that need to be synced up with your balance, to the hand-eye coordination needed to make sure a drop doesn’t spill, and to the subtle posture changes that you might not even notice are all working in sync to keep that coffee from becoming ground coffee.

To be Continued

Engineers are faced with the task of translating millions of years of evolution into a machine that has only existed for a few decades now. Now that’s a job you’d need lots of coffee for.

Would you like to know more?

Mr. President

Read my lips, no sugar, please. So long as America has stood, her presidents have sat down with a cup of coffee every morning. Like how our British neighbors across the pond enjoy their cup of tea, it’s a simple gesture to show that even world leaders need to wake up in the morning.

Founder’s Coffee

George Washington, the first president of the United States, was someone you could call a coffee drinker. Okay, maybe that was an understatement. In one year, the founder imported over 200 pounds of coffee according to his ledgers. Even weeks before his death, he ordered 150 coffee beans from the Red Sea port of Mocha. George Washington had coffee both during the breakfast hours and the dinner hours. Other founders like John Adams renounced drinking tea for the sole reason that the British drank them lavishly and taxed the American colonies for them. The act of drinking tea was an act supporting the British whom they were fighting. Another founder, Thomas Jefferson even once said that coffee was his favorite drink in the civilized world.

President Teddy

Theodore Roosevelt was estimated to have drunk over a gallon of coffee a day. He was even quoted by Maxwell House coffee in their motto with the phrase, “good to the last drop”.

Coffee With the Kennedys

Some presidents even had political uses for drinking coffee. John F. Kennedy used coffee to gain support for his senatorial campaign. In his event called Coffee with the Kennedys. JFK used this platform to meet with supporters, improve his public image, and of course, share a cup of coffee with someone.

Leave the Latte, Take the Cappuccino

In the underground world of criminal organizations, having an edge on information can mean the difference between being able to spend ill-gotten gains, or having to spend a decade behind bars. But rather than bribes or other unscrupulous means of persuasion, mafia bosses in Italy just opened up a cafe.

An Offer They Can’t Refuse

Seems a bit strange right? Consider the phrases pillow talk, water cooler talk, bar talk, and cafe talk. People like to talk, especially when doing something mundane! We discuss this in a previous blog post here. Understanding this, mafia leaders in Italy decided to open up a coffee shop directly inside the courthouse where their own were being prosecuted!

He Knows a Guy and a Cafe

Prosecutors, lawyers, and even police officers shared intimate details of mafia-related cases with the staff at the cafe. Most of them being only prompted with casual conversation. There was no need for bribes, threats, blackmail, or violence. Just a happy smile, a cup of warm coffee, and of course, recording devices in every corner. Such a seemingly innocent plan sure brewed up tons of trouble for Italian authorities. Thus, it became clear that years and years of case building against top crime figures in the country may have already been compromised. It’s not clear how much information was collected by the illegal entities, but it was enough to warrant the closure of the cafe shop.

Would you like to know more?
